Welcome to SLAS!

As an academic counseling service within the Division of Undergraduate Education, Student Life Advising Services (SLAS) promotes the philosophy of providing students with guidance and resources to facilitate the attainment of their personal, academic and career goals. Our primary goal is to empower students from culturally diverse backgrounds to achieve academic excellence. Therefore, we make every effort to provide students with the information necessary to develop the skills required to succeed at Berkeley and beyond.

Our services are extended to:

  • Low income students (Pell Grant eligible as verified by Financial Aid)
  • Educational Opportunity Program students (i.e., first generation college and low-income students)
  • Underrepresented students
  • Summer Bridge Program students
  • Incentive Awards Program students
  • South Central Gifted Scholars
  • Pre-Cal academic development program students (e.g. Upward Bound)
  • Academic Outreach Program, Educational Guidance Center)

In a campus environment that may feel impersonal and indifferent, we provide students with information that will assist them in navigating the "Berkeley bureaucracy." Additionally, we assist students who may be encountering difficulties with financial aid, Tele-BEARS, housing, registration, employment, and a host of other areas. If we are unable to assist student immediately, we connect them through our referral network with the appropriate resources that can meet their specific needs, such as peers, staff, faculty, alumni, and other members of the university community. Students requiring more intensive counseling are referred to Counseling and Psychological Services.
