About SLAS and EOP

We are an academic counseling and advising service within the Division of Undergraduate Education. We promote the philosophy of providing students with guidance and support that will enhance their academic, personal and social experience at Cal. Our primary goal is to empower students from culturally diverse backgrounds to achieve academic excellence. Therefore, we make every effort to provide students with the information necessary to develop the skills required to succeed at Berkeley and beyond. Our services are extended to all students, with a priority outreach to entering Educational Opportunity Program Freshpersons and Transfer students (i.e., first generation college and low-income students), underrepresented students, Summer Bridge students, Incentive Awards Program students, and students who participated in outreach programs (e.g., EAOP, Upward Bound, MESA, etc.).

Educational Opportunity Program
The Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is a student support service which differs somewhat among the UC campuses, but generally includes basic types of
programs:

  • Transitional services aimed at helping students to acclimate to the campus
  • Academic counseling/advising, including personal and career counseling
  • Networking and referrals to campus resources including academic enrichment programs
  • Mentorship and graduate school preparation
  • Instructional activities, including academic skills enrichment and tutoring.

EOP is open to all students who meet the eligibility requirement for sponsorship, which includes the following:

  • First-generation college student
  • Pell Grant Eligibility
