What is EOP?
Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) is a support service for
undergraduate students who are from low-income and first-generation
college backgrounds. EOP applicants must be residents of California or
Tribally registered Native Americans from any state.
To apply to EOP the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP)
Students should check the appropriate box on their UC application for
undergraduate admission. Students can apply to the EOP program by

To apply to EOP post-admission:
Students must apply through Student Life Advising Services/EOP.
Students may request an application by sending an email to advising@berkeley.edu, picking up an application during office hours, or calling (510) 642-7224.
Will I have my own EOP Counselor/Advisor?
You may select your own counselor/advisor or we will assign one based on your intended or declared major.
How do I sign up for an advisor?
Telephone us or visit our office.
Do I have to be an EOP student to use your services?
No. We counsel and advise all Cal students, however, some of our
programs and services are contingent upon financial need. For details
refer to the section pertaining to Programs and Waivers.
Can you assist me with selecting my courses?
Yes. You may drop in or schedule an appointment with an advisor.
Can the EOP Program help me get into my major?
Yes. We can advise you on how to package your application to your
intended major. You should request an appointment with an advisor as
soon as possible.
Do you provide book vouchers?
No. If you are a financial aid recipient, your award will include expenses for books.
I did not receive enough financial aid to cover my educational expenses. What do I do?
You may want to consider appealing to the Financial Aid Office. If your
appeal is denied, we suggest that you return to our office for further
assistance.
I am on academic probation. Can you help me?
Yes. Students on academic probation are urged to make an appointment
with an advisor immediately and to visit the Academic Probation Site.
How is your advising and counseling different from other departments?
We offer continuous advising and counseling support throughout your career at Cal.
I have a number of questions. Do I have to make an appointment with an advisor?
No. Students can email us a quick question. You will receive a response
the next business day or see a Drop-In Advisor between the hours of 9am
-4pm daily.
I'm having money troubles. Can you help?
We do have financial assistance programs emergency loans and offer discretionary grants Programs.
Can I change my grading option?
Yes. Refer to your schedule of classes for the deadline dates.
I
received a Non Passing grade on my mid-term exam. Should I change my
grading option to a Pass/Not Pass because I am not certain that I will
pass the course?
It's up to you to decide, but consider these questions:
Is this course required for my major?
Does the College require students to take it for a letter grade?
Have I taken the maximum unit requirement for Pass/Not Pass?
I can't seem to get better than a "C" in this class. What should I do?
